Pale Hall is recruiting a full time Maintenance Assistant to support the management in the maintenance and compliance of this magnificent Victorian country house set in 25 acres of formal gardens and woodland.

Tradesperson preferred, we're particularly interested in those with a knowledge of maintaining historic buildings. A significant percentage of the hotel’s electricity is generated by a hydroturbine, so some mechanical knowledge would be an advantage but not essential.

This is a key position at the heart of the hotel requiring keen vigilance and the ability to work on initiative. Flexibility is essential to meet the demands of a complex structure with Listed Building status where the unforeseen can happen!

Under the direction of the Managing Director, the role will involve some liaison with the operational heads of department and the gardens team to ensure that work is prioritised and carried out in a timely manner with the minimum of disruption to the hotel operation.

With plans for expansion and new outlets, there are opportunities for the right people to grow and develop with us.

This is a full time permanent position, 42.5 hours per week, five days over seven with rotating weekends on and off.

Job Description

Awareness of and compliance with with all hotel health & safety and fire procedures.

Weekly tests of the with results recorded in the compliance diary.

Ensuring that any identified faults/defects relating to the fire alarm system or the emergency lighting at the hotel are reported as a matter of urgency.

Monthly checks of the emergency fire doors and emergency lighting.

Adhering to a matrix of planned preventative maintenance, ensuring that routine inspections, services and upgrades are scheduled and carried out when required using appointed contractors.

Daily audits of front and back of house areas, ensuring all light bulbs are working and vigilant to any maintenance requirements.

Maintaining types of equipment of a mechanical nature, repairing if it is possible to do so or appointing external contractors if necessary

Basic in-house decorating, joinery, plumbing and electrical tasks within your own limits of knowledge and skill.

Daily liaison with the Housekeeping department to ensure that all maintenance requirements are logged and completed in a timely manner.

Completion of daily task list for Reception at the end of the shift.

Chemicals/products within the maintenance department are accompanied by a ‘Safety Data’ sheet, that precautions are followed when using them, and that they are used/stored correctly in compliance with COSHH regulations.
