Job Summary

The Barback is responsible for creating a comfortable yet upscale experience for guests of Triple Creek Ranch. This position is responsible for all aspects of bar service in the dining room and bar including ambiance, cocktail/beer/non-alcoholic beverage service, as well as food service under the direction of the Dining & Beverage Manager.

Minimum Required Qualifications

The person in this position needs to:

  • Constantly move about the dining room. (fast-paced environment)
  • Constantly move about the bar area and rooftop lounge.
  • Frequently use hands to pour, mix and stir bar drinks.
  • Frequently write meal tickets, unfold and place tablecloths, place silverware and glassware on tables.
  • Occasionally use cleaning equipment to wipe, scrub and polish.
  • Frequently ascend and descend stairs when moving between the dining room and the rooftop lounge or storage areas on the main floor.
  • Occasionally positions self to reach items in lower cabinets, on lower shelves and in beverage closet.
  • Frequently communicates with guests regarding drink selections and other ranch information, guest requests or concerns to the Dining & Beverage Manager, or other appropriate departments.
  • Occasionally lift and carry boxes, equipment and other items weighing upwards of 30 lbs.
  • Must possess an alcohol server certification valid in the state of MT, or obtain one within 60 days of hire.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license, a clean driving record and be insurable on our company liability insurance as a driver of company vehicles.

Essential Functions

  • Create a positive and energetic environment that supports the delivery of an exceptional guest experience while upholding the highest level of TCR and Relais & Châteaux standards.
  • Maintain the extraordinary five star TCR image and resort appearance including all service, cleanliness, and appearance standards.
  • Ensure the overall dining satisfaction of guests in all areas of the lodge, pool, cabin (for cabin deliveries), as well as any special event/dining requests that may arise. It is vital for the Barback to create and manage positive relationships with internal clients (Managers, Activities, Back of House, and Housekeeping), as well as external clients (customers, guests).
  • Tend to the dining needs of guests in a friendly, professional manner. Adequate training will be provided and the Barback is expected to follow the guidelines set forth in the training materials.
  • Greet guests, describe menu items in a pleasant and informative manner and answer general questions about food items.
  • Familiarize oneself with the daily menu items and beverage offerings and be able to explain to guests in a knowledgeable, articulate manner.
  • Ensure that the dietary concerns of all guests are accounted for and properly relayed to the back of house staff.
  • Must adhere to TC Ranch alcohol policy, creating a space where guests can enjoy themselves, but not be overserved.
  • Never serve minors alcoholic beverages.
  • Have the ability to create and pour beverages in an accurate, consistent and quick manner, adhering to the recipe book.
  • Learn about and be familiar with the various wines, beer, spirits and cocktails that are offered.
  • Approach guests table side and offer services in a polite and open manner.
  • Ability to accurately describe, recommend and serve beverages of the world.
  • Keep a full-time presence on the floor to refill wines and beverages and to answer questions.
  • Ability to help service staff take orders, deliver food and deliver beverages as needed.
  • Learn about the various wine, beer and cocktails that are offered.
  • Perform opening, side work, and closing duties for the bar.
  • Must know food items and be able to articulate flavors, types and give detailed descriptions.
  • Be aware of guest dietaries and pay special attention to all menu items that could be problematic.
  • Report any guest complaints immediately to the Dining Room Manager or Dining Room Supervisor in manager’s absence.
  • Stocking and replenishing liquor, beer, wine, mixers, and juices as needed.
  • Restock garnishes and glassware.
  • Run drinks to the lounge and dining room as needed.
  • Clear dirty glassware from the bar lounge and keep a tidy environment.
  • Keep bar counters organized and clean at all times.
  • Assist bartenders by fetching ingredients or supplies.
  • Refill napkins, straws, stirrers and to get paper products as needed.
  • Help serve water and non-alcoholic beverages as needed.
  • Communicate with bartenders any orders or needs of guests.
  • If the bar is slow, assist with glassware polishing.
  • Take bar food orders and set up dining placements for guests, serving them as needed.
  • Once Barback's closing side-work is completed, help with closing duties in back of house.
  • Self-motivate to perform cleaning tasks and stay busy once side work is done.
  • Always conduct yourself in a professional manner with guests and other employees.
  • Adhere to company and department dress code.
  • Follow all safety and food handling procedures properly.
  • Adhere to all federal, state and local alcohol serving laws.
  • Perform any other job related duties as assigned.

  • Side work (opening and closing) and service prep
  • Bussing/ Setting tables
  • Rearranging the dining room as needed
  • General cleaning (sweeping, mopping, removing trash, etc.)
  • Assisting with poolside service and cabin deliveries as needed
  • Assist with cleaning lounge areas and storage closets
  • Any other function that would be deemed as “standard” for the position of Beverage & Food Server.

Job Classification

  • This is a non-exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA).
