Job Description

The Childcare Attendant provides high-quality care for children ages 2 months to 3 years in our infant, toddler, and preschool rooms. Working closely with Lead Teachers, the Attendant helps create a safe, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate environment that fosters each child’s cognitive, social, emotional, and physical development. This position reports to the Childcare Supervisor.

Essential Job Functions / Key Job Responsibilities

  • Create a safe, engaging environment that promotes play, learning, and fun for all children
  • Support the planning and delivery of age-appropriate individual and group activities—including art, story time, games, and outdoor play—that foster social, cognitive, and emotional development
  • Attend to children’s personal care needs, including feeding, diapering, and naptime routines
  • Maintain constant awareness of each child’s location and well-being to ensure safety and prevent injury
  • Keep the environment clean, hygienic, and organized, maintaining high standards for health, safety, and enjoyment
  • Model and encourage positive behavior and conflict resolution, helping children navigate social interactions
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with parents and guardians, providing timely updates and feedback
  • Participate in team meetings or training sessions to support ongoing program development and staff collaboration
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education & Experience Requirements

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in early childhood education or a related field preferred
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children ages 3 and under in a childcare, camp, or educational setting required
  • CPR and First Aid required; or willingness to obtain upon hire
  • Must maintain current certifications and training as required by the state of Colorado throughout employment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of child development, particularly for children ages 3 and under, required
  • Knowledge of basic safety protocols and ability to respond effectively in emergency situations
  • Patience and flexibility to respond to children’s needs and adapt to changing situations
  • Proficiency in Spanish or Portuguese is a plus
  • Ability to set and maintain clear boundaries with children while fostering a positive, respectful environment
  • Problem-solving abilities to address challenges or conflicts that may arise in a childcare setting
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment, maintaining organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team in a childcare setting

Additional Information

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Ability to stand, walk or be on your feet for extended periods of time. Kneeling and bending may be required
  • Regularly work indoors with no adverse conditions. Some positions require exposure to outdoor elements or a combination of both indoors and outdoors and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
