Job Description
Position Summary
The Groundskeeper plays a key role in maintaining the hotel’s exterior appearance and functionality by ensuring all outdoor areas, landscaped spaces, entryways, and common grounds are clean, attractive, safe, and well-maintained year-round. This role focuses on landscaping, grounds care, and exterior maintenance to create a welcoming and visually appealing environment for guests and staff. This position reports to the Director of Engineering.
The pay range for this position is $21.00 to $25.20 per hour, actual pay will be dependent on budget and experience.
Essential Job Functions/Key Job Responsibilities
• Conduct daily walk-throughs of outdoor hotel grounds, landscaped areas, pathways, and entryways to identify and report any hazards or maintenance issues
• Perform routine landscaping duties including mowing, weeding, trimming, planting, and irrigation system maintenance
• Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and orderliness of exterior areas, including sidewalks, patios, parking lots, and green spaces
Seasonal Duties:
• Winter: Remove snow and ice from walkways, decks, and entry points; apply de-icing agents and remove icicles from roofs
• Summer: Maintain lawns, flower beds, and decorative plants; power wash walkways and building exteriors; assist with seasonal setup/takedown of outdoor furniture
• Set up and maintain outdoor hotel amenities such as seating areas, bike racks, and decorative features at the start and end of each day
• Remove litter and debris from around the building and common outdoor areas
• Support the engineering team with occasional basic facility maintenance tasks inside and outside the property
• Replace outdoor lighting and perform minor repairs related to exterior fixtures and common areas
• Assist with setup and transport of maintenance equipment and materials as directed
• Participate in end-of-day facilities cleaning and closure procedures
• Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience Requirements
• High School Diploma or GED preferred
• Minimum of 2 years’ experience in landscaping, groundskeeping, or property maintenance, preferably in a hospitality or commercial setting
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Strong understanding of landscaping best practices, outdoor maintenance techniques, and basic horticulture
• Familiarity with hotel operations and guest service standards
• Ability to safely operate groundskeeping equipment (mowers, trimmers, blowers, etc.)
• Effective verbal and written communication skills in English
• Excellent attention to detail and pride in maintaining attractive, guest-ready outdoor spaces
• Ability to manage time effectively, prioritize tasks, and work independently or as part of a team
• Adaptability to seasonal weather conditions and physical demands of outdoor work
• Commitment to creating a positive guest experience through quality outdoor presentation
Additional Information
Work Environment & Physical Demands
• Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand or be on your feet, kneel and bend for extended periods of time
• Regularly work in adverse conditions and required to use protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials as well as an office environment and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
• Must be able to frequently lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance (weight limits can vary according to position, but no more than 50)
