Job Description
Position Summary
The Lead Server supervises and assists in the service of banquet functions. Serve guests in a friendly, professional manner according to hotel standards. This position reports to the Experience Manager.
Essential Job Functions/Key Job Responsibilities
- Oversee the set-up of functions including checking of the physical layout of the room, providing the servers with the proper set-up information and posts updated function sheets in the banquet kitchen
- Conduct pre-service meetings with staff and delegate duties to banquet servers and bartenders during set-up and break down of events
- Attend monthly department meetings and weekly banquet event order (BEO) meetings to review BEO’s
- Work closely with Group Sales Team and Events Sales Manager to ensure successful execution of events
- Oversee the service of the function to ensure the success of the function and staff adherence to all service rules
- Meet individual group/event contacts and make him/herself accessible to the contact for any need that may arise
- Complete china, glass and silver requisitions
- Communicate / report to Food & Beverage leaders, Group & Events Team after each function re flow of service, issues, glitches, etc.
- Oversee the breakdown of all events and ensure the proper removal and storage of hotel linen, props and specialty china
- Prepare and post daily assignments for servers including specific times for set-up completion and start of service for each event
- Ensure the proper care, security and maintenance of hotel equipment through proper supervision of service personnel
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education & Experience Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- Three years in food and beverage service preferred
- Serve Safe Certification preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Proficient knowledge of food and cooking methods and wine
- Knowledge of all company policies and procedures for the Food and Beverage Department
- Knowledge of hotel fire and safety procedures
- Knowledge of scheduling employees
- Must display basic knowledge of food preparation techniques and food allergies
- Knowledge of the menu and wine list
- Ability to monitor the staff’s appearance, attitude and degree of professionalism with a strong attention to service and presentation standards
- Ability to work outdoors at elevation
- Ability to maintain a positive, professional, team-player attitude
- Ability to work outdoors at high elevation for entire shift
- Ability to maintain a positive, professional, team-player attitude
- Previous experience with computer programs such as Microsoft Office or POS systems preferred
- Ability to communicate and follow oral or written directions in English is required
- Ability to ski or ride at an intermediate level is required for employees of ski in/ski out restaurants in winter
- Ability to complete tasks and projects delegated by supervisor and assist other departments as business volumes and staff levels demand
Additional Information
Work Environment and Physical Demands
- Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand, bend or be on your feet for extended periods of time
- Regularly work in wet, cold, hot conditions requiring the use of protective apparel/equipment to prevent exposure to the elements and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
- Must be able to regularly lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
