Job Description

Camp Aspen Snowmass provides endless options for adventure. Programs include geocaching, climbing, mountain skill building, fishing, rocket building, mountainboarding, arts and crafts, hiking, and much more. The Camp Aspen Snowmass Counselor will lead private and group camp programs. The primary role of the CAS Counselor is to create meaningful and lasting experiences for campers in a mountain environment. Extensive training is provided for all candidates.

Applications for this position will be accepted until June 1, 2024 for the Summer 2024 Season.

Essential Job Functions

  • Create positive, fun and safe experiences for campers indoors and outside in the mountain environment
  • Maintain knowledge of each child’s location at all times during the day
  • Have a working familiarity with most camp activities, and plan and lead activities for campers throughout the day
  • Take direction and feedback while working effectively with a team of counselors
  • Create experiential activities that are age appropriate
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians of campers
  • Assist and support essential childcare functions within the Treehouse Children’s Adventure Center, based on individual qualifications and training

Qualifications

  • Must be 18 years of age
  • Ability to work as part of a team with fellow employees and independently required
  • Ability to independently manage a small group of campers and create a safe, fun learning environment required
  • Previous experience coaching, teaching, or working in a recreational environment preferred
  • Must be patient and able work with children in various settings
  • Ability to be physically active in an outdoor environment required
  • Previous experience in on-mountain activities, including but not limited to mountain boarding, climbing, fishing and hiking is preferred.

Additional Information

Supervision Given & Received

Supervision given: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Supervision received: Works under direct supervision of Director of Children’s Programs. Tasks are assigned according to specific procedures, and work is checked frequently. Instruction, advice and assistance are readily available

Work Environment and Physical Demands

  • Ability to reach, crouch, kneel, stand or be on your feet, kneel and bend for extended periods of time
  • Regularly work in adverse conditions and required to use protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials as well as an office environment and may be required to walk on slippery and uneven surfaces
  • Must be able to lift, push or pull up to 50 lbs. individually or with assistance
