Scope of Position

The Spa Director develops, monitors, and reviews all staffing, scheduling, facility operations, supply procurement, revenue management, safety training, standard operating procedures, payroll management and guest service satisfaction. The Spa Director oversees the management direction and development of the retail, massage, esthetics, salon and reception staff.

The ideal candidate will be experienced in handling a wide range of administrative and hospitality related tasks and will be able to work independently with little or no supervision. This person must be exceedingly well organized, flexible and enjoy the challenges of supporting a small resort delivering the highest caliber of service to its guests. Ocean & Harvest Spa proudly holds a Forbes 5 Star rating, and previous Forbes 4- or 5-star Spa experience preferred.

The ability to interact with management and staff (at all levels) in a fast-paced environment, sometimes under pressure, remaining flexible, proactive, resourceful, and efficient, with a high level of professionalism and confidentiality is crucial to this role. Expert level written and verbal communication skills, strong decision-making ability and attention to detail are equally important.

Schedule Requirements

The operation is 24 hours a day 7 days a week, inclusive of all holidays. While the company will make every attempt to create a work and life balance, all exempt team members may be required to work extended shifts and additional days based on business demands. Working more than eight hours per day and more than five consecutive days as needed is an essential job function for all exempt roles. Travel may be required and may include some overnight stays. All exempt team members should be responsible in scheduling their time off.

Key Relationships

Internal: This position reports to the Director of Rooms and supervises the Ocean & Harvest Spa.

External: This position has regular contact with the company’s consultants, vendors, city personnel, and inspectors. Maintains appropriate relationships with other associations, industry, government, public service organizations and vendors, to enhance the image of the Company and the attainment of its objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Interpret Financial Reports and provide expertise on (projected) Revenue vs. Expenses.
  • Project and maintain acceptable payroll commitments.
  • Use financial plans for spotting trends, measuring productivity and monitoring progress.
  • Control ongoing service and product margin analysis to ensure profitability.
  • Implement opportunities for managing operational costs and boosting the bottom line.
  • Develop procedures for accurate inventory control and monitoring.
  • Priority must be given to maintaining a strong presence on the spa floor, actively engaging with guests and ensuring a highly interactive experience.
  • Utilize full Spa product and service purchasing standards and ensure compliance.
  • Administer staff and client scheduling for maximum revenue generation and profitability.
  • Anticipate, identify, and ensure customer needs are being met in the best possible way.
  • Monitor customer satisfaction with surveys, focus groups and comment cards.
  • Develop and deliver credible, competitive, value-plus service to the customer.
  • Guide staff to become caring problem solvers, cooperative, accommodating, and fair.
  • Exhibit a professional attitude, diplomacy, and an ability to handle difficult situations.
  • Uphold gracious front desk procedures in the booking and handling of customers.
  • Maintain fresh, effective programs to consistently retain and grow customer base.
  • Develop and maintain compensation guidelines for customer complaint handling.
  • Implement ongoing skills training to ensure Forbes 5-Star service standards are being upheld.
  • Perform Staff Evaluation Reports with proposed action plans.
  • Effectively administer and monitor Staff Scheduling procedures.
  • Demonstrate an exceptional level of professionalism for the staff to emulate.
  • Create a motivating environment of sincerity, warmth and fun for staff and guests.
  • Responsible for practicing, managing and promoting OHM’s Mission and Values so that it becomes an intricate part of the everyday operation
  • Represent the Company with a positive attitude and professional attire
  • Follow sustainability guidelines and practices related to Ocean House Collection’s sustainability programs
  • Carry out any other duties which fall within the broad spirit, scope and purpose of this job description and which are commensurate with the role.
  • Oversees housekeeping, maintenance and cleanliness of all spa facilities including, but not limited to, treatment rooms, locker rooms, salon, relaxation areas, indoor pool, steam rooms, fitness center, squash courts and billiards areas.
  • Work with Fitness instructors to create resort activity offerings and special events.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 3 years of Spa Assistant Director of higher experience.
  • Should have a minimum of two years of Forbes Spa Standards experience.
  • Preferred experience in the luxury Spa or hospitality industry.

Education:

  • College degree or equivalent work experience

Language Skills:

  • Fluency of the English language is required (read, write, speak)
