We’re hiring a Maintenance worker to join our world class team at Sonora Resort, a luxury all-inclusive Relais & Chateaux Resort, in the unspoiled wilderness of British Columbia. Nestled in the Discovery Islands, Sonora Resort is a remote location accessed by water taxi from the town of Campbell River on Vancouver Island. This is a Full-time, year-round position that works on site at the Resort in shift work rotations. Seeking a start date as soon as possible.

Resort Life
  • All staff are provided with complimentary single bedroom accommodations. Complimentary wifi, cable TV and internet calling provided in each staff room.

  • Shift work is required from April until October; comprised of 7 working days and 7 non-working working days, subject to change during peak season; employees are expected to be flexible in their scheduling to meet the needs of the business.
  • Water taxi transportation is provided to and from Campbell River for scheduled work shifts
  • Staff are required to leave the resort on their scheduled non-working days and are responsible for securing further transportation and accommodation thereafter.

Position Summary
The Maintenance position is responsible for executing the duties required for the daily operations of the resort’s infrastructure and systems including the buildings, generators, water systems, sewage treatment plant and more. They will be expected to function within a team environment and provide a world class experience for our guests.

Job Duties
  • Perform daily maintenance checks and accurate record keeping for all resort infrastructure (generators, water systems, sewage treatment plant, fire suppression systems and so forth)
  • Attend to any maintenance concerns or repairs in guest and staff areas.
  • Perform routine servicing on infrastructure, equipment and vehicles.
  • Troubleshoot any issues that arise with Sonora’s infrastructure, buildings and equipment.
  • Deliver water samples from Sonora Resort to appropriate health authorities in Campbell River at the end of your weekly shift.
  • Demonstrate desired service behaviors in accordance with Relais and Chateaux expectations.
  • Work independently or with other team members on any given repair or task.
  • Assist with other mechanical and electrical repairs on other equipment throughout the resort.
  • Be willing to work extended hours to complete an urgent repair.
  • Ensure effective working relationships and clear communication is maintained with all colleagues and departments.
  • Ensure that all equipment is kept in the best repair possible and are used in a safe and proper manner in coordination with the Maintenance Manager.
  • Ensure good communication daily with the department manager on all issues, particularly those affecting customer services, employee relations and the economical operation of the department.
  • Perform any other reasonable duty or assignment requested by the department or General Manager
  • Drive small electric vehicles around the resort.
Qualifications
  • Must be legally authorized to work in Canada and fluent in English. Second languages are an asset.
  • Two (2) years of experience in a building or facility maintenance role, hotel or resort maintenance or a relevant trade-related field.
  • Experience in maintenance and repairs of gasoline and diesel engines.
  • Knowledge and experience in building systems such as HVAC, LPG boilers, plumbing, electrical, structural and mechanical preferred.
  • Electrical experience in AC and DC power required.
  • Hot tub and swimming pool maintenance experience would be an asset.
  • Must possess thorough understanding of resort infrastructure; experience in a live-in resort environment is preferred
  • High School Diploma required. Any additional education or certifications in mechanical an asset.
  • Valid Drivers license required. Transport Canada Marine Vessel Operators certificates an asset.
  • First Aid & AED certificates are an asset.
  • Adapts easily to change in a work environment with changing priorities
  • Must be capable of physical aspects of the job; handling heavy loads, combination of sitting, walking, standing for extended periods of time, bending, crouching, kneeling.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting and creative problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work cohesively with fellow colleagues as part of a team or independently with minimum supervision.
