We’re hiring an IT & AV Coordinator to join our world class team at Sonora Resort, a luxury all-inclusive Relais & Chateaux Resort, in the unspoiled wilderness of British Columbia. Nestled in the Discovery Islands, Sonora Resort is a remote location accessed by water taxi from the town of Campbell River on Vancouver Island.

This is a full-time Seasonal position that works on site at the Resort in shift work rotations, with the possibility of becoming a full-time year-round position for the right candidate. Seeking a start date in March 2024.

Resort Life
  • All staff are provided with complimentary single bedroom accommodations. Complimentary wifi, cable TV and internet calling provided in each staff room.

  • Shift work is required from April until October; comprised of 10-14 working days and 4 non-working working days, subject to change during peak season; employees are expected to be flexible in their scheduling to meet the needs of the business.
  • Water taxi transportation is provided to and from Campbell River for scheduled work shifts
  • Staff are required to leave the resort on their scheduled non-working days and are responsible for securing further transportation and accommodation thereafter.

Position Summary
The IT & AV Coordinator will have a passion for excellence in guest service and a strong background in technical support. This position is responsible for the technical support of Sonora resort’s IT & AV facilities for guests and staff and will undertake guest services duties as required. They will be expected to function within a team environment and provide a world-class experience for our guests.

Job Duties
  • Demonstrate desired service behaviors in accordance with Relais & Chateaux expectations.

  • Maintain company computers and software on site.
  • Physical Network Maintenance i.e. installing switches, cables, replacing APs etc.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain functioning state of all audio-visual equipment at Sonora including: In-House Movie Theatre, Conference Center (projectors, televisions, and audio), Golf Simulators, Satellite TV distribution, AV + lighting control systems.
  • Plan and execute A/V component of events such as musical performances, meetings etc.
  • Communicate with Head Office support and outside vendors on technical issues until point of resolution.
  • Training fellow staff and guests on the function and proper use of various technology through the resort.
  • Coach team members in matters relating to IT where appropriate.
  • Guest service duties include: relief coverage of Front Desk, room walking, creating fishing licenses, financial transactions with guests, assisting with queries and other support duties as required by the Operations Manager.
  • Ensure effective working relationships and clear communication are maintained with all colleagues and departments.
  • Ensure good communication daily with the Department Managers on all issues, particularly those affecting customer services, employee relations and the economical operation of the Resort.
  • Be aware of and promote safety standards to ensure both employee and guest health and safety.
  • Drive small electric vehicles around the resort.
Qualifications
  • Applicant must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working in an IT related environment.
  • Thorough understanding of the operations of corporate IT management; experience in a live-in resort environment is preferred.
  • High School Diploma required.
  • Technical School or University/College certification in an IT related field would be an asset.
  • Any additional education or experience working with technology support in a corporate environment (SharePoint, Microsoft Exchange, File Servers, VLAN’s, etc.) would be an asset.
  • Familiarity with Opera (or other Property Management Systems), SQL and databases (MSSQL, Oracle), Database Reporting (SSRS, Tableau, etc.), iOS devices, document formatting, Vantage Controls, Crestron Remote Control Products, and projectors are all assets.
  • Experience with point-of-sale software/hardware (MICROS, Simphony, etc.) and their associated processes.
  • Experience with VoIP hotel phone systems.
  • Experience in satellite TV installations, troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Inventory management and control experience.
  • Experience with photography/videography and photo correction/organization an asset.
  • Must be fluent in English, second language an asset.
  • First Aid & AED certificates are an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Professional telephone/office manners.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with keen attention to detail and willingness to learn.
  • High Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 - including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Be capable of fulfilling physical requirements of the job: Repetitive tasks, handling heavy loads, combination of standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time, bending, crouching, kneeling.
