Description
The Fitness Manager oversees the daily operations of the Fitness Center and Pool facilities, ensuring the highest standards of service, safety, and professionalism. This role includes managing staff performance, maintaining world-class cleanliness and equipment standards, coordinating fitness and wellness programs, and ensuring a superior guest and member experience.
The Fitness Manager will collaborate closely with the Spa and Wellness Director and the Operations Manager to support business objectives, staff development, and member engagement in alignment with the mission and values of Old Edwards Inn & Spa.
Key Responsibilities
Operational Oversight

Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Fitness Center and Pool facilities.

Ensure all staff—including attendants, trainers, and instructors—perform their duties according to established standards and job descriptions.

Provide staff with the necessary tools, training, and support to perform their duties effectively.

Monitor classes, hikes, and fitness programs to ensure coverage, teaching classes as needed.

Maintain world-class cleanliness and functionality across all fitness and pool areas.

Perform or oversee minor repairs and ensure all fitness and spin equipment are kept in excellent condition.

Submit timely work orders for equipment malfunctions or safety concerns.

Work in conjunction with the Old Edwards Inn & Spa Fitness team to ensure all policies and standards are consistently followed.
Guest Experience & Service

Deliver exceptional, world-class guest service at all times.

Greet each guest warmly by name and create a welcoming environment.

Provide instruction and guidance on proper use of fitness and pool equipment.

Monitor guest activity to ensure smooth traffic flow and safe use of facilities.

Respond promptly and professionally to guest inquiries or concerns.
Membership & Administrative Coordination

Coordinate Fitness Member inquiries, tours, contracts, and billing.

Assist the Member Liaison with Fitness Membership sales, renewals, and promotions.

Conduct facility tours for new and prospective members.

Arrange complimentary personal training sessions for new members.

Accurately track member check-ins and collect guest fees for fitness and pool use.

Support budget management and assist in the preparation of the annual budget.
Staff Leadership & Development

Recruit, train, and schedule Fitness Center and Pool Attendants, Personal Trainers, and Fitness Class Instructors.

Conduct regular staff meetings and ongoing training to maintain service excellence and safety standards.

Maintain an up-to-date training manual and ensure staff compliance with company policies.

Foster a positive, professional team culture that aligns with the company’s vision and values.
Health, Safety, & Compliance

Develop and enforce safety and sanitation protocols in coordination with the Operations Manager.

Ensure compliance with all health, safety, and cleanliness standards by staff and guests.

Maintain confidential guest health and fitness records in an organized, secure manner.

Document and report all incidents, accidents, and safety hazards promptly.
Program Development

Create and oversee guest and employee wellness programs.

Coordinate special events, workshops, and promotional activities to engage members.

Maintain a thorough knowledge of all Fitness Center and Spa services, promotions, and products.
Qualifications
Minimum Age: 21 years old
Education & Experience:
-
Prior management experience required.
-
Background in fitness or hospitality preferred.
Certifications:
-
CPR certification required.
-
Personal Training and Group Fitness certifications (multiple formats preferred).
Skills & Attributes:

Strong leadership, organizational, and multitasking abilities.

Highly service-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Proficient in computer and telephone systems; knowledge of Spa Soft software preferred.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand, walk, sit, or engage in physical activity for extended periods.

Regularly lift or move up to 25 pounds; occasionally up to 40 pounds.

Must be able to see, hear, and communicate effectively.
Work Environment

Frequent interaction with guests in person and via phone.

Noise levels are generally below conversational volume.
