This is a hybrid position that will allow the applicant to supervise lifeguards and pool facilities at both The Hershey Lodge and the Hersheypark Camping Resort. This position will work closely with the Director of Recreation at the Hershey Lodge and the Property Manager at the Hersheypark Camping Resort. This position will be responsible for hiring, training, scheduling, and overseeing the pool facility at the Hersheypark Camping Resort and assisting with these items at the Hershey Lodge.

Job Duties (Duties marked with an asterisk are essential functions of this job):

Hersheypark Camping Resort:

  • Oversee pool operations & lifeguard staff

  • Manage and maintain proper water conditions, including chemical levels, in all swimming pools*

  • Hire, train, motivate, develop, and manage performance of staff. Monitor/approve employee requests and edit payroll as needed. Create schedules to provide adequate coverage for all pool functions*

  • Prepare materials and other resources to ensure the appropriate, timely, and thorough training for all lifeguard positions at Hersheypark Camping Resort. This includes lifeguard training classes, monitoring lifeguard certifications, and hosting weekly in-service training for lifeguards*

  • Ensure cleanliness of the facility by enforcing and maintaining safety, health, and sanitation practices that meet guest expectations and property standards*

  • Resolve and follow up on any complaints, issues, injuries, or other concerns to ensure resolutions effectively meet guest needs and provide excellent customer service*

  • Complete first aid & rescue reports and submit via the company tracking system*

  • Conduct and attend property meetings. Support lifeguards by filling in as needed

  • Assist with maintaining supplies and completing inventories as needed

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Hershey Lodge:

  • Overseeing daily activities, pool operations, lifeguard and activities staff

  • Assist with training of new and existing staff in proper opening/closing of the pools and daily operations of the recreation facilities as well as department policies

  • Facilitating weekly in-service trainings for all lifeguards.

  • Lifeguarding and Hosting Activities as needed

  • Ensure lifeguards adhere to Lodge safety standards

  • Maintain the cleanliness, appearance and physical condition of the pool facilities

  • Review and coach staff on standard operating procedures

  • Schedule staff for rotations and meal breaks in accordance with operating needs and PA Child Labor Laws

  • Ensure that employees conform with the Lodge appearance standards at all times

  • Participate in weekly departmental staff meetings

  • Maintain accurate records, including accident and injury reports, chemical logs, weekly pool testing and lab reports

  • Maintain uniform and pool supplies inventory

  • Maintain all department storage areas in a clean, clutter-free manner

  • Assist with training of new and existing staff in proper opening/closing of the pools and daily operations of the recreation facilities as well as department policies

  • Oversee the department’s tracking of lost and found items to ensure that the housekeeping department receives all items in a timely manner.

  • Perform tasks and projects as assigned


  • Must be at least 18 years of age or older

  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

  • Minimum of 2 year of lifeguard experience

  • Lifeguard Instructor Certification, Certified Pool Operator (CPO), and Pesticide Certification (Category 24). Pre Employment Preferred Certifications: Ellis Lifeguard Certification for Deep Water

  • This position may provide care, supervision, guidance, or control of children or may have regular, ongoing contact with children that is integral to the responsibilities of the position. As a result, in accordance with Pennsylvania's Child Protective Services Law, newly hired candidates are required to obtain the following clearances: a report of criminal history from the Pennsylvania State Police (PSP), Child Abuse History Clearance from the Department of Human Services (Child Abuse), and Fingerprint-based federal criminal history submitted through the Pennsylvania State Police or its authorized agent (FBI). Completed clearances are required to be submitted prior to starting employment.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Must have strong communication skills both verbal and written

  • Working knowledge of basic computer skills of Microsoft Office Programs and/or GSuite

Job Demands:

  • Physical requirements include complete mobility and good physical conditioning, good hearing, and ability to tolerate both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside

  • Must be able to stand, bend, lift, pull, push, carry

  • Proper footwear and sunglasses must be provided by the employee

  • This job requires a good sense of vision (either corrected or uncorrected). Visual ability to operate moving equipment such as a car, truck, golf carts, etc

  • Schedule varies according to operational need but includes evenings, weekends and holidays. Must be available to work varied shifts. Shifts can begin as early as 7am and end as late as 11pm

  • Training for the position will be conducted by the Hershey Resort Properties through the International Pool and Lifeguard Training Program (Jeff Ellis & Associates). Applicants that are currently certified through American Red Cross or other Certification programs, are eligible to apply, but must be certified by Jeff Ellis & Associates.
